Hidden water leaks in walls and floors

When pipes run inside screed, behind tiles or above ceilings, a leak can show up somewhere else entirely. Here is how to think about the signals before you ask.

Signals people commonly notice

None of these is proof on its own. Together, with dates and locations, they make a useful description.

  • 01The water meter moves while every outlet is closed
  • 02A bill noticeably higher than the same period last year
  • 03Damp patches, staining or lifting skirting that keeps returning
  • 04Loose, hollow-sounding or cracking floor tiles
  • 05A warm area of floor that is not explained by heating
  • 06Reduced pressure that is hard to account for
  • 07The sound of running water when nothing is in use

Simple observations you can make safely

  • 01Close all taps and appliances, note the meter reading and time, then read it again after a period with no use
  • 02Note which rooms, which wall or floor area, and whether marks grow, move or dry out
  • 03Note whether the problem changes with the hot water, irrigation or pool equipment running
  • 04Photograph marks with a date if useful; you can share safe photos later inside WhatsApp if asked

Why it is rarely where the stain is

Water follows the easiest route. In Marbella villas, supply pipes often run within floor screed or behind cladding, and water can spread along that layer before appearing at a joint, a skirting or a lower ceiling. That is why it is worth investigating carefully rather than opening the first damp spot.

A thermal image alone does not prove a leak. Temperature differences can come from heating, sunlight, pipes carrying warm water normally, or materials. Any method used would be discussed and confirmed for your situation before a visit.

If water is visibly escaping

If water is actively and visibly escaping from an accessible pipe, tap, toilet or appliance, that is ordinary plumbing territory and needs appropriate confirmed plumbing help, not an investigation enquiry. Do not manipulate utility equipment; keep clear of water near electrics.

Safety first

The shared WhatsApp number is not a duty or emergency phone.

  • If water is near sockets, appliances, panels or lighting, keep clear and do not touch electrics.
  • If anyone is in danger, call 112.
  • Active, visible water escaping needs appropriate confirmed plumbing help, not an investigation enquiry.
  • Do not drain, excavate, manipulate utility meters or open electrical panels on the basis of anything on this site.

Describe what you have noticed

Room, floor level, what changed and when. That is enough for a first conversation.
